SUMMARY:Dean Atta: Big Man! - Book Launch and Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Come hang out with Dean Atta as he dives into Big Man! and answers all your burning questions.\n\n\n\nDean Atta: Big Man! – Book Launch and Q&A\nCome join us at Acton Library on October 22\, 2026 at 6:00 PM (BST) for a special Black History Month event! We’re celebrating the launch of Dean Atta’s first novel\, Big Man. \nBig Man follows the life of Big\, a middle-aged Black British gay man who lives a gentle life with his boyfriend\, Little\, in their home in East London. Big and Little enjoy evenings out and group holidays with friends\, as much as practising yoga together at home\, and running side by side along the Hackney canals. \nBig came of age in the club scene under the watchful eye of Mother\, an African American trans woman who made a home and name for herself in London\, her house a refuge for wayward queer youths like Big. When he finds out Mother is releasing a memoir\, the two reconnect after decades of distance\, and Big finds himself having to confront a long-repressed assault that opens old – and new – wounds. \nA tender\, daring novel full of gentle humour\, Big Man explores themes of identity\, aging\, sex\, family and trauma\, turning a lens on what it means to age as a queer person\, while being a double-edged love letter to the people and places that make us. \nAfter the launch\, stick around for a fun Q&A session hosted by the amazing Zoe Cornibert from the Black Circle Podcast. It’s a great chance to hear more about the book and chat with Dean Atta himself.

SUMMARY:DARDR/DVA & Criminal Justice Summit 2026 - PLIAS
DESCRIPTION:At a time when our sector is navigating significant change and uncertainty\, one thing remains clear: the voices of children\, young people\, and service users must never be sidelined. \nThat is why PLIAS Resettlement has decided to open our upcoming event\, “The Voice of the Child\, Young Person and Service User\,” to everyone\, both in person and virtually. \nRather than charging for attendance\, we are simply asking for a donation from those who are able to give. \nThis year’s theme is too urgent\, too relevant\, and too important for anyone to miss because of cost. We want practitioners\, leaders\, community organisations\, advocates\, and service users themselves to come together and be part of a conversation that can influence change. \nSign up here.
