International Womens Day

Ealing celebrated International Women’s Day from 2 March – 24 March this year, with a calendar of events organised by community organisations, council, and residents across Ealing.

International Women’s Day falls on 8th March each year, with this years themes being Rights. Justice. Action. for ALL Women and Girls, and Give to Gain.

We had the Metropolitan Police out across the borough delivering information stands in Northolt, Perivale, Hanwell and Acton, storytelling time at Perivale Library, and a night time Safe Haven at Ealing Broadway Station. They also supported a free self‑defence workshop for women at Gauntlet Fight Academy.

Southall Community Alliance organised an afternoon of talks and information sessions at Southall Town Hall for residents, which included practical talks about services, support, housing, as well as activities to connect and focus on wellbeing.

Ealing and Hounslow Community and Voluntary Service led an online Generation Equality session to explore how Council, community organisations, schools and young people can help make online spaces safer. We heard directly from young people about how content can be moderated, how reporting lines can be improved, and how awareness can be raised the issues they currently face in online spaces.

Housing for Women, Hestia, Refuge, Forward UK and Women’s Wellness Zone joined forces to deliver a One Stop Shop at OPEN Ealing in Dormers Wells. Councillor Grace Quansah closed the event by delivering two poems for the community.

The Asian Women’s Network (TAWN)  hosted a special IWD edition of “Chai With TAWN”, giving Asian women a safe and supportive space to connect, chat and access guidance on everything from mental health to housing.

To honour both IWD and Ramadan, FORWARD UK and community leaders hosted a Community Iftar, creating a space for reflection, connection and shared learning.
The evening brought together women, residents and local professionals to celebrate community spirit.
To round off the month, Southall Black Sisters held a special International Women’s Month film screening at Ealing Picture House. They showcased All We Imagine As Light, a Cannes Grand Prix winner centred around women’s stories, friendship and modern life in Mumbai.
A special thanks to all organisations involved this year, attending marches, organising talks, storytelling or late-night support; your contributions are all truly appreciated.
